Arlington's newest gymnastics studio teaches more than just fitness

emPOWER kids gymnastics takes a "whole child" approach

By Sasha Ridley January 6, 2021

We were excited to be invited to try out coach Jenni Hogan's new emPOWER kids gymnastics classes.  What we found was a first-rate gymnastics program built on a foundation of positivity and mental and physical well-being.  Here are three reasons why emPOWER kids should be at the top of your list when you are considering a gymnastics program for your child:

#1 The Coach

Jenni Hogan is the founder, owner, and principal instructor at emPOWER.  With a background in elementary education and a decade of competitive gymnastics coaching with the Arlington Aerials under her belt, she has the ideal background to guide children through their gymnastics practice.  From newbies to experienced practitioners, Jenni is engaging, respectful, and technically proficient.  She has a true gift for working with children and helping them to develop both expertise and passion for the sport.

# 2 The Philosophy

Jenni feels strongly that her gymnastics program should be more than an athletics or fitness program.  Her curriculum focusses on the whole child, both body and mind. She cultivates that all important "growth-mindset", which research shows is important for academic and career success down the road.  Jenni believes that every child can grow through experience and practice, and she encourages all her students to support each other in their personal growth.  It is clear that she wants every child to feel loved and welcome in class, making it a great place for a child who might otherwise be reluctant or intimidated to try gymnastics.

# 3 The Space

Housed in the Crystal City crossfit box South Arlington Fitness & Nutrition, emPOWER kids is situated in a gorgeous athletic facility with a stylish industrial vibe.  The gym is enormous and spotless, with plenty of space for social distancing, and massive garage-style lift doors that allow for ample ventilation.  The convenient Crystal City location also features on and off street parking, and a separate lounge for waiting adults.
