Need in-person activities for kids? Parks & Rec registration is open!

February 2, 2021

Exciting news! The Arlington Department of Parks and Recreation is ready to offer in-person outdoor recreation, nature, and history classes. These classes "will be limited in size and follow the Governor’s Forward Virginia safety guidelines".  We've skimmed the catalogue for you and found offering like dance, tennis, pickle ball, soccer, T-ball and more!  Not to mention awesome nature programs, campfires, and other great activities.

Here is a TINY sampling of all the fun things going on:

"Fire Building for Kids Ages 7-11: Interested in some basic survival skills and curious about campfires? Get practice starting, feeding, and putting out campfires safely. Bring your own S’more supplies and we’ll roast a few marshmallows in the process!"

"Trail Exploration Hike Ages 6-10: Kids can be the leaders of this nature hike through Glencarlyn Park! Each participant will get the chance to lead the group to explore the trails and discover different habitats, with a naturalist along for the ride."

"Nature Storytime Ages 2-10: Come enjoy a story with one of our naturalists along with the chance to meet a live animal!"

"Pre-Ballet & Movement 1 Ages 3-5: Do you have an aspiring ballet dancer? This class introduces basic ballet positions and explores creative movement with playful music and props."

Readers, you know there is a ton of pent-up demand for activities.  These will fill up FAST, so my best advice is:

1.) Make sure you are up-to-date on all your county bills - the system will delay you from registration if you are not up to date.

2.) Know and test your login and password in advance of February 3.

3.) Browse the catalogue PDFor website, and know what classes you want to sign up for in advance.

4.) Familiarize yourself with Arlington's handy how-to-register guide.

May the odds be ever in your favor, my friends.
