Coach Hogan is not new to the Arlington summer camp scene. She is the former summer camp Director Arlington County's regularly-sold-out half and full day gymnastics summer camps. For her own program, she has planned a dynamic and exciting curriculum that is sure to keep the kids laughing, moving, and learning.
Here are the top five reasons we think emPOWER's camp is a great choice for summer!
1. Focus on functional fitness: Summer camp at emPOWER features a minimum of 1.5 hours of physical activity daily. There are no rote or pointless drills. Kids are taught real gymnastics skills emphasizing strength, flexibility, and balance.
2. Emphasis on social and emotional skills: There is no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic has been hard on children, many of whom have missed out on social opportunities for over a year. Coach Hogan has developed a unique approach to helping foster social skills while still maintaining rigorous health protocols. Children learn how to introduce themselves to one another, support each other and cheer each other on in class, take turns, and work collaboratively to overcome obstacles.
3. Weekly themes and STEAM activities: Weekly camp sessions will run from 6/28/2021 through 8/20/2021, with each week having a new theme to keep things interesting. So, whether you sign up for one week or all weeks, your kids will be immersed in something different and fun. Coach Hogan also makes sure there are continuous learn-through-play activities, with a focus on science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM).
4. Small group sizes and COVID protocols: Camp is capped at 10 children per week, and the ratio of camper to coach will be no more than eight to one. These ratios help ensure social distancing, but they also mean that students get a great amount of coaching and instruction.
5. Qualified people who care about your kids: Coach Hogan demonstrates her commitment to a supportive environment with every class she teaches, and she looks for the same in her team. She has assembled an outstanding slate of highly trained role models comprised of USA Gymnastics Pro coaches who are CSCS, MAT, CPR, and First Aid certified.
